Two settlement modes

Wallet or direct settlement — the right fit for your business

With Wallet, receive funds in Payzeno and withdraw when you want — ideal for getting started quickly. With direct settlement, businesses and institutions use only the infrastructure: funds land in your own accounts at the gateways (M-Pesa, EMIS, etc.).

Two settlement modes

Two models, one platform

The same checkout and API — what changes is where money goes and how you pay Payzeno.

Default mode

Wallet

Ideal for businesses, online stores and merchants who want to receive in Payzeno, see balance in real time and withdraw to their bank account.

  • Payments credit your internal wallet
  • Fee per confirmed transaction (e.g. 7%)
  • Withdrawals with 0% commission
  • Payzeno accounts at gateways — fast activation
  • Dashboard with balance, history and withdrawals

Infrastructure only

Direct settlement

For businesses and institutions that need checkout, API and compliance — but funds must land in your own accounts at the gateways (M-Pesa, EMIS, etc.), without passing through the Payzeno wallet.

  • Funds go to your entity accounts at the gateways
  • Gateway credentials configured per entity
  • No Payzeno wallet — focus on collection and reporting
  • Monthly fee + per-operation fees (negotiable)
  • Automatic monthly PDF invoice by email

Invoicing — direct settlement

Paid infrastructure, settlement in your account

In direct settlement mode, Payzeno records each confirmed payment, applies the agreed tariff (percentage or fixed fee by amount tier) and issues a monthly PDF invoice — sent automatically by email and available in the dashboard.

  • Platform monthly fee (negotiable)
  • Per-transaction fees — % or fixed tiers (e.g. 0–1 000 MT → 20 MT)
  • Accrual report by period
  • Automatic job on the 1st of each month

Who is each mode for?

Choose Wallet if…

  • You want to start quickly without complex contracts
  • You prefer to see balance and withdraw when needed
  • You are a business, online store or service provider
  • You accept the % fee per confirmed transaction

Choose direct settlement if…

  • Funds must go to your gateway accounts, not the Payzeno wallet
  • You already have or want your own M-Pesa / EMIS / Stripe credentials
  • You prefer paying infrastructure monthly instead of a % per transaction
  • You are a business, public institution, NGO or entity with direct settlement requirements

Frequently asked questions

Can I switch from Wallet to direct settlement later?
Yes. The Payzeno team configures settlement mode, gateway credentials and pricing on your account. Contact us to migrate with zero checkout downtime.
Is checkout the same in both modes?
Yes — same API, same payment links and same experience for the end customer. The difference is internal: fund destination and billing model.
Is direct settlement only for the public sector?
No. Any business or institution that needs to receive in their gateway accounts can use this mode. Government institutions have dedicated onboarding at signup; businesses and NGOs activate direct settlement after a commercial agreement with the Payzeno team.
How does pricing work in direct settlement?
We combine a fixed monthly fee + fees per paid operation. This can be a percentage or fixed tiers by amount (e.g. 20 MT up to 1 000 MT, 50 MT up to 10 000 MT). Everything is documented on the PDF invoice.
